Adult Ministry (Director - Laura Gingrich)

A variety of small group adult education and fellowship opportunities are available. New groups can be initiated at any time and we will be happy to assist you in establishing a class that may be of interest to you and others. For further information on any class, feel free to contact Laura Gingrich at 533-9668 X116. Please note that child care is provided during most of our classes and meetings, but check the Nursery Schedule to make sure.

  • 9:30-10:30 a.m. – Christianity's Family Tree - begins June 20
    9 Week study, led by Pastor Karen and others, meets in Upper Overflow. In this book, Adam Hamilton presents a welcoming, inspiring vision of eight Christian denominations and faith traditions. The traditions he examines are Orthodoxy, Catholicism, Lutheranism, Presbyterianism, Anglicanism, Baptists, Pentecostalism, and Methodism. For each group, Hamilton gives a brief history, outlines major beliefs, and describes some things we can learn from that tradition to strengthen our own Christian faith. Download registration form.
  • 2:30-3:30 p.m. - Confronting the Controversies - begins September 12
    Confronting the Controversies is a 7-session group study of "tough issues" based on Adam Hamilton’s sermons on these topics. Cost of book is $10. Led by Pastor Karen.

Monday

  • 6:30-8:30 pm - Disciple II - begins September 20
    This study proclaims the transforming power of Scripture while teaching Bible study skills that take participants deeper into the Scripture. Cost of book is $30. Led by Craig Fasnacht.

Tuesday

  • 9-11 a.m. - Invitation to Genesis - begins September 21
    This short-term Disciple Bible study will take you into the rich tapestry of Genesis exploring the interaction between God and very human people - pride, family relationships, conflict and journey all showcase the best known stories of Creation, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Rebekah and Joseph. Cost of book is $10. Craig Fasnacht, leader.

Wednesday

  • 7 p.m. - Wednesday Evening Bible Study - Ephesians
    Pastor Gary, leader

  • 6:30-8:30 p.m. - Disciple I - begins September 8 with a preview class. DISCIPLE: BE-COMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY, is a long term study of the entire Bible. Cost of book is $30. Pastor Gary, leader.

Thursday

  • 12:00 noon - Senior Luncheon sponsored by Forget-Me-Nots
    Lunch, fellowship and special program in the social hall. Meets 4th Thursday of each month.
    Pre-registration is required by calling the church office (533-9668) or signing up at the Welcome Center. (Suggested donation: $3.00-$5.00) Everyone is welcome! Invite your friends! Be sure to register your friends at the Welcome Center or Church Office when you sign up. 2010-2011 luncheons begin September 23. Sign up by Monday, September 20 at the Welcome Center or church office.

  • 6:30-8:30 p.m. - Financial Peace - begins September 9
    Preview on Sunday morning August 29 at 9 and 10 a.m. Classes will go through Thursday, December 9 – skipping Thanksgiving, Nov 25. Special discount offer until September 1 - $75 per family unit! After September 1, units will be $100 per family unit. Carol and Larry Grunden, leaders.

  • 7-8:00 a.m. - Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference? by Philip Yancey - begins September 10

  • 9:30-11:00 a.m. - Sisters Life Group - begins September 10
    Initial gathering session to introduce and outline the program, then will meet weekly for the next six weeks. Finding Balance: Loving God with Heart and Soul, Mind and Strength will help women consider the question of balance in their lives--between service and worship, duty and devotion, doing and being. Cost of book is $7. Cindy Glassmoyer, leader.

Post-college to early 30s
“Neutral Grounds” - Young Adults (for post-college to early 30s) will meet on neutral grounds, across the street from First Church at Café Zooka and share conversation and coffee (grounds, get it?!?!). Jennifer and Peter Lewis, who have the experience of being young adults, will get the conversation brewing! Meet Jennifer and Peter near Social Hall entrance at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, or join the Neutral Grounds group at Café Zooka at 10:45 a.m. ― Neutral Grounds is open to all young adults – invite friends to come!


United Methodist Women Circles

Would you like to expand your concept of mission here at home and around the world Then United Methodist Women is the organization for you!  Caring about women and children both at home and around the world is an ongoing commitment for us. Our unit has three circles with each providing its own special emphasis.  Read below to find the one that touches you.  For more information contact the leader of the circle.  Please join us and be ready to start a wonderful, loving journey of a lifetime.

Freedom Circle from 7-8:30 p.m. meets the 1st Tuesday of each month in the Lounge.  Throughout the year we have a variety of programs where we learn more about our mission outreach and do hands-on projects such as tying fleece blankets and providing newborn "gifts" for new mothers in the Harrisburg Hospital, filling bags for youth at the Shelter for Abused Children at the United Methodist Church's Home in Mechanicsburg, and visiting Mission Central to be actively involved in further hands-on projects.  Leaders: Vicki Holbrook and Judy Henning.

Faith Circle at 9:00 a.m. meets every Wednesday in the Lounge. Focus: Making cool-ties, knitted caps, and slippers for the Troops, lap robes, and preemie coverlets. Any person wishing to help with this ministry can visit us on a Wednesday morning or contact the church office, 533-9668, for more information.

Hope Circle at 9:30 a.m. meets the 1st Wednesday of each month in the Lounge. Focus: Community service via Neighborhood Center, Spring Creek Health Care Center, Bibles for Bethesda women, soup and bread to shut-ins, kitchen care/clean-up, receptions at church concerts. Leader: Ginny Suhring.

Anyone interested in mission with women, children and youth but don't have time for meetings?  You may want to become an online member.  Go to www.umwonline.org to find out more.   This is a safe way to become a part of United Methodist Women and to participate as you are able. You will receive updates and important info as well as be able to participate in chat rooms with other United Methodist Women all around the world. You may want to join the online UMW Book Club. One can be a member of both a local unit and the online unit. They compliment each other. Even men can sign up as a friend of United Methodist Women. This is for all ages so check it out!
