What are mandalas anyway? "In Sanskrit, an ancient language of India, the word mandala means circle, center, or sometimes "sacred circle" or "a cluster of blessings". They have been used mainly as a communication tool, to connect with God. Mandalas are found throughout the world, in Native American cultures, India, Buddhism, Middle East, Asia, Australia, and Egypt. Many are also found in churches, such as the north and south stained-glass rose windows of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France." (Maureen Frank)

At First Church, the children made "Peace Mandalas" as a form of prayer, representing and celebrating our diversity and unity. During the Acorn Art Station of the Tree House Sunday School, the children read and reflected on James 3:17-18 and then used watercolors to create their own beautiful mandalas.

Bishop Jane Allen Middleton joined us for fellowship and shared her spiritual journey using her very own mandalas.
