Local and National Missions
The following organizations receive financial support from First UMC. We strive to maintain ongoing relationships with these ministries and the people they serve. Please refer to the church bulletin, events page, or contact the church office to learn about hands-on mission and outreach opportunities with these mission partners and others.
Local
Bethesda Mission
Bethesda Mission provides shelter, clothing, food, and other services to the homeless in Harrisburg. Their vision is the Rescue, Redeem, and Restore in the name of Christ.
Hershey Food Bank
Hershey Food Bank is a volunteer organization that provides management and oversight of funds, supplies and donated items for the social ministry for Derry Township residents.
HOPE WITHIN MINISTRIES
Hope Within’s mission is to share God's love with people in need through the provision of health care services, dental care, sound counsel, and related education. They provide primary health care to the uninsured low-income residents of Lancaster, Dauphin, and Lebanon Counties. Through the grace and goodness of God, we are excited to share His love by offering excellent and free primary medical, low-cost sliding scale counseling, and donation-based dental care via the hands of more than thirty volunteers medical, dental providers, therapists, and nurses.
Family Promise (Harrisburg Capital Region)
Family Promise is a local affiliate of a national nonprofit agency serving families who recently lost their homes. Their mission is to empower families through relationships and skill building to move out of homelessness.
Love, INC (Greater Hershey Area)
Love, INC of Hershey is a local chapter of a national organization uniting the resources of multiple local churches to provide support and direction to community people in need.
She’s Somebody’s Daughter
She's Somebody's Daughter, a 501(c)(3) based out of central PA, started in 2012. Originally, SSD was an awareness campaign focused on sharing the truth about sexual exploitation and the many forms it takes in our world today. Then in 2013, they launched an Intervention Initiative with the goal of erasing the lines of separation that isolate women in the industry. Our Beautiful Exchange, a group of women who seek to help other women find resources and support in their time of need, began in 2014. They help carry the load of life, connect to community resources, and walk alongside each other in the journey toward wholeness and healing.
Someone To Tell It To
Someone To Tell It To is a Non-profit ministry, co-founded by former Hershey First UMC pastor, Rev. Michael Gingerich, offering people compassionate listening and care.
United Methodist Home for Children
United Methodist Home for Children located in Mechanicsburg, provides community-based care services including safe housing, food, clothing, educational support, and counseling to youth ages 12-20 and families in need in central and southeastern PA.
National
Mission Central, Mechanicsburg PA
Connecting God’s Resources with Human Need.
Mission Central is the mission warehouse affiliate of the Susquehanna Conference of the UMC located in Mechanicsburg that provides resources and logistical support for disaster response, mission outreach, and mission education.
Red Bird Mission & Christian School
Red Bird Mission is an institution of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. Ministry in the heart of Kentucky's Appalachia that seeks to provide spiritual, physical, educational and economic needs for people without opportunities and struggling to live day by day.
